One Winter Morning

She woke before me,

straining her brush through aurora strands,

smiling at the pale gown

reflected in the blue-green mirror.

When she stretches,

pink melon breasts exposed at the nipple

collect prism dew, drowning

in the throb of rehydrated crystal needles.

The vapors of her perfume are scentless,

senselessly caressing the rivers of her eyes

like butterfly winds—fluttering out

from east to west; an oriental song.

But the lantern burns—

by night she is radiantly departed:

she lays her head in my lap

and the mascara runs in shadows down my leg.

*Out of season by the title, I know, but I hope you’ve all enjoyed the cool touch of this one all the same…my contribution to what may well be the last, or one of the last One Shot Wednesdays at One Stop Poetry. It has been an honor and a pleasure, everyone. I look forward to visiting you all outside of the linkies though, and to continue basking in your poetry as time rolls on.

Perceptions

Divinity in a smile

These eyes, like stars alight

To stoke the fires of this passionate

Elation, embrace of thought

That tickles yet the nervous breath

Coiling through the nerves—

Sensory serendipity.

Watching this Mirage

Deception of romance

Serpentine coils of medusan gaze

Wrapping around this memory

Of a man, once knowing

These lines, unrestricted,

Entwining about his heart.

The portrait and the face

Smiling through the frown

Of this imaginary madness

We’ve come to call a life

Will this define

Or refine

Your perception of meaning?

What dreams we greet

To hide the nightmare

Of reality.

Waiting

I’m waiting on a light

That may never arrive;

I’m grabbing at the stars

And catching only dust.

Every moment builds into

Another moment lost

And still I wait,

Humming in the night,

As though the world will shine on me

In my ceaseless indolence.

Dreams unravel

It is reality waiting

Not this fiction I have woven

Into this false world.

Summer Nights

Such sweetest nights!

The sun departs, the moon arise

But still the fire burns

As bodies shake and memories sway—

What is that taste

Which sweetens all the dreams

And brightens reverie?

Every time I close my eyes

The world is song and dance,

A mysterium of magic beats

And vibrant color

Swirling through the dance

Of human interaction.

Bright eyes

And soft words,

The whispers of the soul demand

All attention to the fore.
