Changing of the Season

Through the looking glass

The shadows dissolute

Into departed sunlight show

This prism rain

All color manifold

Of passion, thunder

Recompense, colored by the twilight

Of the season’s breaths—

Draw in the life,

In basest being,

Breathe out the death

Of personality, in shimmering

Nonexistence fell

A lifetime of memory,

To lie fallow in the fields—

Crumbled cares

Take flight in dreams

Of pumpkin pie.

  1. Bravo, Chris! Makes me want to go to the GT Pie Company. lol Seriously, amazing how the poem captures the moment of questioning reality.

  2. With multifaceted words you take us through an internal journey of the season in light and shadow. We examine the brilliance of life before giving thanks for it. Quite beautiful in unique form and usage. Well written. Gay @beachanny

  3. So very very emotional, in vivid depth, such a place I know of so very well my friend, so glad of the ending lines that weave the surrounding senses of a sweetness to life/ awakening. Stunning work! ~April 🙂

  4. LOL! You made me fall into the words, deeply…and then the pumpkin pie at the end was quite a pull back to reality!.

    Great imagery, hauntingly worked.

  5. The words “prism rain” brings forth wonderful images for me. I could imagine the reverie you describe that follow seeing the rain in the looking glass. And then as the mind does, ultimately turning to pie. Excellent.

  6. i loved this chris – such a “serious” poem with such a quiet and reflective atmosphere – and then the pumpkin pie – this is just perfect – unexpected and perfect!

  8. Amazing imagery! The ending left me surprised though 😀

    Loved these lines:

    “This prism rain

    All color manifold

    Of passion, thunder

    Recompense, colored by the twilight

    Of the season’s breaths—”

    Really brilliant!

  9. This poem has so many facets to it…so many moods… it’s like a diamond! Giving off so many colors… some dark…some bright and cheery…
And with the onset of Fall, that’s exactly what happens too!

I really liked the serious undertones in this poem… it made it all warm and real…
