Ghost in the System

There is a ghost in the system

Everywhere I look

Eyes, following

Faceless arbitrary

Being

It walks the lines that blur

Humanity from itself

Wears our skin, but

The mind is pure

Know the spy

That lurks

Behind

Surround yourself with empathy

Strictly emotionally speaking

It won’t know the difference

Creatures not withstanding

Between you and I, two in

One, imitation profound

They may take our

Bodies but they

Can never take

The Soul.

  1. Loved the title.

“It walks the lines that blur

    Humanity from itself

Wears our skin,…” — so perfect a description of that ghost.

A really thought-provoking poem, Chris. Enjoyed it very much.

  2. some fantastic lines in this – walks the lines that blur humanity from itself…wow…and know the spy that lurks behind…
somehow a comforting thought – what you know – you can prepare for – and then think about how to deal with it

  3. Ghost in the system can never take the soul.. how true and very lovely verse… thanks.

  5. Nice One Shot!

I’m reminded of the song “Ghost In The Machine” by The Police.

The song’s title was taken from a 1967 book of the same name by Arthur Koestler – which was itself named for a phrase coined in 1949 by British philosopher Gilbert Ryle, meaning to ridicule the mind-body dualism systems of René Descartes and others. (Ain’t Wikipedia great?)

  6. Wonderful lines Chris, great description then you got me all creeped out about being haunted by ghosts..don’t want that to happen..but i loved your finish they can’t take over us completely, we still have our souls. Great oneshot~
